Se4All WP4 Progress: Market Insights and Consumption Patterns Explored at UAB
On June 10, 2025, Se4All advanced the implementation of Work Package 4 (WP4) with targeted secondment activities at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). The focus was on Task 4.3: Consumption Patterns and Market Survey, a key element in understanding how functional foods, particularly selenium-enriched dairy products, are perceived and accepted by consumers across Europe and Latin America.
As part of this effort, two Se4All partners from REDINN ,
- Leonardo Piccinetti, and
- Donatella Santoro ,
took part in collaborative research meetings and data planning sessions with UAB researchers.
Hosted by UAB’s interdisciplinary team, this activity contributed to building a robust framework for the consumer behaviour and market analysis phase of the project. Discussions focused on:
- 🛒 Trends in functional food consumption
- 📊 Survey methodologies and cultural variability
- 🌍 Cross-regional comparison of selenium awareness
- 🔄 Data alignment with Se4All sustainability goals
“Understanding the social dimension of selenium-enriched food innovation is just as important as the scientific one,” noted Donatella Santoro during the workshop.
This secondment reinforces the role of Se4All in connecting science, society, and the market — supporting the successful translation of innovation into public health and commercial impact.
